When it comes to listening, there must be two persons in this world. The ones who listen to understand and the ones who listen to reply. The person who listens to understand is the one who will always learn, but the one who seeks to reply, is the one who ends up never learning and never understanding.
The Lord God expects from us that we have a fluid character that always seeks to understand, instead of rigidly holding on to what we think we know. When we are fluid, we will value every given Word of God. We will also long to have a deeper understanding of what He is saying to us. This longing is validated by our level of faithfulness and obedience to what He has already spoken.
The Lord makes it very clear that when we are not faithful to what He entrusts in our keeping, we will not be receiving anything from Him. And even that what we had received from Him, will be taken away.
Similar verses are found in Matthew 25:29, Mark 4:25 and Luke 8:18.
Those who are permitted to understand the secrets of the Kingdom are those who willingly listen and pay attention to what is being spoken by the Lord.
The Lord is looking for those who fear Him. Those who fear Him are those who are faithful and obey. When we have such a posture, He is seeing Himself in us. Isn’t this the very purpose He created us for? This is true fruitfulness. The Lord does not withhold Himself from such a person.
Do you feel like God is far away from you? Or do you feel like your are not hearing His speaking in your life anymore? Or do you feel confused? A lot of times I have found the solution by checking how I have been stewarding the teaching of the Lord. Just ask yourself these questions: Have I been really been listening to Him? Have I been doing what He says? Has there truly been a change in my behavior? Or am I still doing and thinking the same way? Have I set my heart on things or on Him?
Beloved, let us be the ones who God is looking for. Let His Word manifest in our daily life. Let it not simply be a mirage. Let it be life, because the Father is glorified in this. Let us be true stewards of the Kingdom of God.
