Scripture Engagement

ld_scriptureengagement_0Biblegateway is one of my best friends when it comes to bible reading and studying.  It was in January 2017, that I took the time to go through the page: ” Scripture Engagement”  on this wonderful website. Entering this page has given me a more in-depth experience in reading of the bible and it even increased my appetite for the word.  As 8 months have passed, I view  scripture engagement as the moment where the Lord interacts with me through his word and allows me to see and understand His heart for me. It is the moment when I am fueled and empowered to make changes in my character and interactions with others.

Journaling through scripture using the SOAP method is what I have been using thus far as a beginner in scripture engagement. SOAP stands for: Scripture, Observation, Application and Prayer. Scripture is about taking the time to read and to allow God to speak to you through His Word. When done reading, you write a verse that spoke to you that day in your journal. Observation evolves around the main question: “what is God saying to me through this scripture?”  Here is where you allow the Lord through his Spirit to teach you and reveal Jesus Christ to you. Application concerns personalizing the verse by asking yourself how it applies to your life. Maybe it is an encouragement, correction or a revelation. Prayer is the final step in the process, whereby you allow the Holy Spirit to move you into a conversation with the Lord.

These past 8 months have been an enriching and learning experience and I am looking forward to what lies ahead. I understand much better what David meant when he said: “The unfolding of your words gives light; it gives understanding to the simple” With my posts I would like to share this light and understanding and I hope this may inspire you to engage with Him in a deeper way.
